Orange surfs the digital wave with Grand Union

13 Jul 2011

Grand Union launches the “Check-in” operation for Orange’s ROXY PRO.

Orange connected Biarritz beaches to Facebook thanks to Grand Union (a FullSIX group agency) at the ROXY PRO's World Surfing Championships (July 11th-17th). People could interact live with the social network via the terminals at their disposal on the stands with their "RFID wristbands".

As the ROXY PRO's official partner, Orange set up RFID wristband check-ins throughout the event which promotes their new "digital coaching" strategy. The aim was to make digital technology a part of people's everyday life.

Thanks to the RFID wristbands distributed on site, this operation enabled people to interact live with Facebook, by checking-in via the terminals at their disposal. They could:
- take photos; post them on their wall,
- win gifts
- support the "Surf Insertion" association with "Likes" (100 check-in collected = one surfing lesson).

Every check-in automatically displayed a post on the user's wall. Orange wanted to involve the public in both a social and digital action - a first for this kind of event. The operation met great success from the first day; each person checks-in an average of ten times a day.
